Cargo sous terrain (CST) recently managed a feasibility study on Carbon capture and storage (CCS), in cooperation with industrial partners, associations and the public sector, in particular the Federal Office for the Environment. The scope of the study was whether and how captured CO\u2082 can be transported from point sources in Basel to be stored in Norway. It focussed on technical aspects and examined the economic viability of the value chain under various scenarios. The results confirm the feasibility of disposing of CO\u2082 via pipeline and thus underline the importance of CCS as an important pillar for the realisation of the Swiss Climate Strategy 2050<\/a>. The possibility of integrating this pipeline into the CST network is an option.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the feasibility study also identified unresolved issues: the lack of legal standardisation, the need to establish a sponsor to develop the value chain and the need to incorporate expertise from abroad are key challenges.
